Handmade Artist's Charcoal
Artist's charcoal made from my willow tree. Hand picked fallen branches, stripped of bark and turned into charcoal in my fireplace creating a really lovely soft charcoal to work with.

These pieces of charcoal are handmade. Because of this they tend to curl slightly when being fired. The curve in the charcoal does not effect the quality of the charcoal but gives it a lovely handmade feel to it. each piece is roughly 9cm long and vary in thicknesses. The charcoal gives you a soft and mouldable media to work with. I use it personally as my preferred medium.
The outcome of your charcoal piece will depend on how you choose to use your charcoal.
I've used this charcoal a lot in my artwork and have even ground the charcoal down to use in my handmade watercolours to give extra life to the charcoal. The willow sticks originate from my own back garden, from fallen sticks of my weeping willow and are then fired in my own fireplace only a few feet from where they were collected.
